CONVERTER COMMERCIAL GROWTH

Commercial growth for converters

For converters of tapes, films, foams, adhesives and engineered materials, commercial growth requires more than a list of equipment and materials. Apex Consulting helps connect capabilities to specific customer applications, investigate where a different material format or workflow might matter and qualify the work worth pursuing. The aim is a credible path from inquiry to a manufacturable, quotable and customer-approved program—not simply more RFQs.

01 / THE WORK

Start with the application and assembly process

Filter prospective accounts by end product, material, manufacturing process and the converter's ability to support the work. Then examine what the component must do: bonding surfaces, interfaces, geometry, tolerances, handling and assembly sequence. A converted format may offer a useful alternative to manual preparation or placement, but that is a discovery hypothesis, not a promised improvement. The first conversation should establish whether the customer recognizes a problem worth evaluating.

02 / THE WORK

Qualify RFQs before committing technical effort

Agree on pursuit criteria and a consistent pre-quote brief. Review drawings, specifications or models only when authorized to do so. AI-assisted review can help organize geometry, material and process evidence and prepare questions about possible failure modes; it does not establish manufacturability or replace engineering, quality or customer validation. These are engagement working practices, not public upload or signup requirements.

  • Customer name and customer type: manufacturer, distributor, wholesaler or retailer.
  • New-customer potential compared with a threshold agreed with your business—not an invented fixed amount.
  • New or current project status and the customer's part or item number.
  • Product and application description, including required production format and timing.
  • Current overseas purchasing and factory-direct versus trading-company sourcing context, where genuinely relevant.
  • Target price, when available, annual volume and a possible three-year run rate.
  • Availability of authorized prints, drawings, models or specifications and unresolved technical requirements.
  • Additional customer or sales-team comments that affect the quote or re-sourcing decision.
  • Questions about material fit, tolerance stack-up, handling, assembly sequence and qualification.
  • A pursuit decision with a named owner, next gate and stop/defer rule.
03 / THE WORK

Connect samples and trials to a defined customer decision

A sample sent is not an application approved. Distinguish discovery, material/process fit, sampling or trial, qualification, quotation and production readiness; the actual sequence depends on the program. Identify who defines acceptance criteria, who conducts the evaluation and what evidence permits the next commitment. Engineering, operations, quality and procurement may need different proof. Where stages overlap, make the dependencies explicit rather than treating activity as progress.

04 / THE WORK

Test the production and economic case together

Review setup, tooling, expected scrap, order quantities, packaging, scheduling and service demands with the people responsible. Compare any proposed change with the customer's actual labor, handling and qualification requirements. Market or supply information may suggest cost-stability or continuity questions, not prove that a current supplier is at fault. Apex helps expose assumptions for the decision; the converter retains responsibility for feasibility, costing and commercial approval, and the customer validates performance and value.

05 / THE WORK

Give each stakeholder a relevant reason to engage

Useful outputs include an application-to-capability map, an account/application brief, a stakeholder map and a decision plan. Translate one consistent value story for technical fit, production handling, quality validation, procurement economics and executive priorities. Identify required proof without making conflicting promises. Use legitimate professional contact routes and respect privacy, consent and opt-out requirements. Historical quotes of any age remain useful learning and account-development sources; check what changed and whether a relevant reason to reconnect exists rather than discard them for age alone.

06 / THE WORK

Start with one application family or RFQ workflow

Choose a manageable set of inquiries or historical quotes linked to a defined application family, capability or RFQ bottleneck. Apex works with sales, technical and operations contributors to assess fit, missing evidence, stage ownership and commercial concerns. The starting scope produces usable qualification tools and account actions, not an open-ended overhaul. Part-time working commercial leadership can help run the reviews and carry agreed actions forward.
